The New Canaan girls soccer team is in the midst of a terrific season and will be playing for the FCIAC championship on Thursday night at Fairfield-Warde High School. This week’s Rams by the Numbers starts off with a few key facts for the soccer team, as it bids for a title.
Moving on from the soccer pitch, we’ll shift to the gridiron for a new Ram record, and take a peek at some former New Canaan stars at the college level. From there, it’s on to the cross country course as the Rams hit their stride in Wickham Park.
Score of the New Canaan Rams’ victory over the rival Darien Blue Wave in the FCIAC girls soccer semifinals Monday night in Wilton. The Rams have now beaten the Wave twice this season, having previously taken a 1-0 decision at DHS.
Goals scored by New Canaan sophomore Emma Schuh in the first two rounds of the FCIAC girls soccer tournament. Schuh scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Wilton in the quarterfinals last Thursday, and added two more in a 5-0 semifinal win over Darien on Monday. Katherine Lisecky, Kaleigh Harden and Dillyn Patten each scored once in the semis.
The last year in which New Canaan reached the FCIAC girls soccer final. In that game, the Rams and Ridgefield Tigers were declared co-champions after playing 100 scoreless minutes. New Canaan went on to win its next five games to claim the CIAC Class L crown with 1-0 win over Avon in the final.
Career touchdown receptions for New Canaan senior co-captain Quintin O’Connell, who broke the football program’s record during a 42-7 win Thursday night against Pascack Valley. The old mark of 30 had been held by Kevin Macari (Class of 2011), who was in attendance at Thursday’s game.
Points scored in the first half for the Rams during their win over Pascack Valley. New Canaan led 42-7 at halftime and kept the second half scoreless. New Canaan had 373 yards of offense, with quarterback Drew Pyne throwing for 239 yards.
Passing yards for New Canaan’s Michael Collins in his debut performance as the starting quarterback for the TCU Horned Frogs football team. Collins, a sophomore, completed 23-of-33 passes, including one for a touchdown, and also ran for two more scores. Unfortunately for TCU, Kansas held on to win the game 27-26.
Score of Boston College’s football win over the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday at Chestnut Hill, Mass. New Canaan’s Zach Allen, a senior defensive end, had six tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss and a sack in the victory. The contest is known as the “Red Bandana Game,” after former BC lacrosse player Welles Crowther. Crowther was a volunteer firefighter who died during the 9/11 terrorist attacks when the South Tower fell. He saved the lives of 12 people that day.
