New Canaan’s Collins puts up solid numbers, but TCU football falls to Kansas

Making his first start at quarterback for the TCU football team, New Canaan’s Michael Collins racked up 351 passing yards and scored twice, but couldn’t lead the Horned Frogs to the win as Kansas took the game, 27-26, Saturday in Lawrence, Kansas.
The Frogs (3-5) were on the doorstep while trailing 27-24, as Collins directed a 64-yard drive in the closing minutes. His 11-yard pass to Taye Barber on third-and-nine put TCU at the Kansas 9-yard line.
On the next play, however, running back Darius Anderson ran into the back of one of his own linemen and fumbled the ball, with Kansas recovering at the 6-yard line with 1:11 remaining.
The Jayhawks eventually took a safety with one second remaining on the clock, and then recovered a squib kick to end the game
It was the Jayhawks’ first win over TCU since 1997.
Collins put up some big numbers, completing 23-of-33 passes for 351 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Reagor. Collins also had one interception.
For the second straight game, Collins had a solid game on the ground, rushing 10 times for 40 yards and scoring on two short TD runs.
TCU led 10-7 at halftime after the Collins-to-Reagor TD strike, but the lead seesawed between the two teams throughout the second half.
A 3-yard touchdown run by Collins gave TCU its final lead at 24-20 with 10:38 on the clock, but Kansas answered with a TD and then held off the Frogs down the stretch.
