The New Canaan volleyball team scored its biggest victory to date this season when the Rams edged the Ludlowe Falcons 3-2 Friday at the NCHS gymnasium.
New Canaan lost the first set, but rebounded to win the next two before the Falcons took the fourth and tied the match at 2-2. A tight fifth set went to the Rams by two points, with New Canaan winning by a final tally of 14-25, 25-16, 25-23, 13-25, and 16-14.
Senior co-captain Emma Wheeler led the offense with 12 assists, four aces, and six kills, while junior Josie Matyszweski collected 5 kills and 5 aces.
For Ludlowe, Amy Lumaj had 7 blocks and 7 kills, while Lilly Traum had 4 aces, 11 services points, 2 kills, 21 assists, 3 digs.
The victory was a huge one in the FCIAC playoff race, as Ludlowe had just one league loss coming into the match.

Ludlowe is now 8-2 overall and 6-2 in the FCIAC.
New Canaan will take on the two Norwalk schools next week, hosting the Bears (4-7) on Wednesday and then playing at Brien McMahon (2-9) on Friday.
